About
History
We at Sovereign Christ Church began meeting in May 2006 in the homes of member families, following the New Testament example of house church communities. We are currently meeting in the home of Clint Zeigler. Clint Zeigler and Jim Gaster are the ordained elders ministering in our church. Clint was ordained in June 2006, shortly after the Church was started. Jim was ordained in early 2010, and both have been faithful in serving the Body of Christ for many years.
Since May 2006, we have worked through various issues establishing our identity as a church. Our ultimate goal is to exalt God and advance His Kingdom through the gospel of Jesus Christ. Some of the issues that make up our identity are:
Covenant Renewal: We believe Scriptural worship is also a renewing of our covenant relationship with God. Our services will usually include a call to worship, confession of sins, assurance of forgiveness, responsive Bible reading, and the teaching of God’s Word. We partake of the Lord’s Supper (Communion) each week, and the minister pronounces blessing on all God’s faithful saints. We sing Psalms and Scriptural hymns throughout our service.
Calvinistic: We believe that God is sovereign, and that His sovereignty extends over all spheres: creation, salvation, judgment, rule, etc. Further, this sovereignty is the hallmark of Christ, the one who has been given all authority, both in heaven and on earth. This sovereignty is really and truly possessed over all things here and now, and will be more readily recognized when all enemies have been put under His feet and the Kingdom has been given over to the Father.
Victorious Gospel: Jesus Christ died so the world could be saved. He is raised from the dead, and therefore all of God’s creation will be restored through this gospel. We are called to build up God’s righteous kingdom and lead all nations to the obedience of faith in Him. We are not called to escape the world, but to have dominion over it. We do not hope in a future rapture, but for the return of Christ to consummate His kingdom and the restoration of all things to God.
Family Integration: We believe it is important for families to worship God together as one. We encourage all children to participate with the adults in praise, fellowship, and communion as one body in Christ. We avoid age segregated worship, and strive to conduct our services so that everyone may participate.
Christian Education: We see the family as being responsible for the education of children, and are supportive of home and classical Christian education. God calls us to be faithful from one generation to the next, and He commands us to raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. We are continually striving to equip parents for this great responsibility.
